Anger at Taiwan’s ‘heaviest pig’
Animal rights groups have expressed outrage at the force-feeding and sacrifice of the world’s heaviest pig in Taiwan.The obese pig was sacrificed as part of Taiwan’s annual Pig of God contest.Animal activists filmed the pig’s slaughter, and the parading of its body, for its online video campaign.
The pig weighed more than 908kg (143 stone) after being force-fed sand and metal. It was unable to stand on its own feet and took 20 men to carry.
Force-feeding pigs until they weigh 908 kilograms with sand and metal to the point where it cannot walk? What kind of sick people would do such a cruel thing to pigs? Oh, right: it’s the Taiwanese of course.
After its slaughter on Saturday, in Hsin Chu, it was painted and paraded through the streets. The heaviest pig contest is part of the annual Pig of God festival, and hundreds of pigs are force-fed as farmers seek to increase their weight.
Leah Garces, WSPA International Programmes Director, called the contest “a grotesque freak show that ends in the public killing of animals”.
The competition is illegal in Taiwan, but activists say that authorities in Hsin Chu have been reluctant to enforce the ban, fearing a backlash from religious groups.
I can imagine this being cruel. After all they did make the pig eat just sand and metal until it was too painful for the poor animal to live. I am not surprised that this ritual in Taiwan is illegal, but I am surprised how the local police allow this to happen just because of some minor pressure groups. Show us how much rule of law is actually in Taiwan contrary to what we’re always told by the pro-Taiwan media.

Regarding the sacrifice of the pig fed on metal and sand- all I can say is that if (whatever God you choose to believe in) he/she/it is a God that needs to be appeased by such gross and un necessary cruelty….is he/she/it a God that YOU WANT TO BELIEVE IN? OR SHOULD BELIEVE IN? I have seen some discusting and cruel things in my lifetime and many of those have involved human beings, but this has to be somewhere near the top of the list for cruelty to animals. A very very easy way to judge how cruel this is is to try to do it to yourself for a while…………….any takers……..OF COURSE NOT……WHAT A DISCUSTING PRACTICE !

Taiwan is a beautiful place. Stop being so pro-Chinese with your comments. I am sure many Taiwanese would force feed plastics and metals to our pigs if it will bring their “President” good fortune.

What is all this hate you have for Taiwan? I am a Turkish-Greek and support the Taiwanese peoples freedom. What does China has to do with Taiwan ? Actually China is the North Korea and Taiwan is the South Korea of their own case… instead of trying to occupy Taiwan on internet blogs I truly believe that China should give up communism, find the right way and join Taiwan under Taiwanese flag. Absolutely Taiwanese China would be much more appreciated worldwide …. I don’t wish to sound wrong I love Chinese people as much as I love Taiwanese just the Chinese bully government pisses me off.

Taiwan has no animal rights? Well I know if you get a dog for your Chinese girlfriend in China you can see it cooked for the dinner and have the worst nightmare of yourlife…. So ridiculous to hear from a Chinese that Taiwan has no animal rights… while China has no human rights, not even as much as the animal rights in Taiwan…. What kind of a creature are you? Do you think you know all and we can not learn any information from these 2 countries? I was thinking that you were stupid but I understood I am totally wrong… Actually you are a low profile who has too much self esteem with a belief of being smart somehow.
Wake up we can all see the truth. You seem to be the only one here still dreaming.

BTW, I just saw a video file on youtube how the Chinese rip the skin of of a dog while it is perfectly alive and explaining that is more tasty to eat if they take the skin of while still alive….. Oh my God…. Un-Be-Liv-able. Before pointing others as ugly you just need to use the mirror once every 2-3 years…
