UN rejects membership for Taiwan

BBC News, UN, New York
The United Nations has once again blocked Taiwan’s quest for membership of the world body, despite a huge high-profile campaign by the island.
A key UN committee has rejected a proposal from Taiwan’s allies to put its bid on the agenda of the general assembly, meeting now in New York.
China, which claims Taiwan as a province, is adamantly opposed to UN membership for the island.
Taiwan and mainland China split in 1949 amid civil war.
There you go. After spending thousands if not millions on a grassroots campaign and having nominal allies claiming support for a UN seat, Taiwan is rejected for the 15th time in a row not counting the rejections made earlier this summer. This is what happens when the island refuses to listen to America’s advice and attempt to make anti-American protests in response.
Having island-wide marches and spending money to flood advertisements on major newspapers has amounted to nothing. People are just aware Taiwan is not in the United Nations, but no one was moved to make any steps that would get them in.
Referendum planned
This is the 15th consecutive year that Taiwan’s quest for membership of the United Nations has been rejected.
After the split in 1949, Taiwan became the stronghold of the nationalists and the mainland became the communist People’s Republic of China.
However, until 1971, the Chinese seat at the UN was held by Taiwan under its formal title, the Republic of China.
But then the United Nations expelled Taiwan and gave the seat to the Beijing government.
Ban Ki-moon, the UN Secretary General, was asked why the UN could not consider Taiwan’s membership.
He said it was legally impossible because of that 1971 general assembly resolution that expelled the representatives of nationalist China.
Taiwan, though, has no intention of giving up its bid for membership. The government is planning a referendum on the issue for March.
Ok, so the bid failed miserably as expected and the government is still going to ram their heads into the wall by having a meaningless referendum over this. I am sure spending extra funds to have a fruitless referendum and when the United Nations says “no” they mean “no”. Not “maybe” not “yes” and Taiwan should stop running themselves into the brick wall and return to reality.

Taiwan is an ISLAND, though they consider themselves as a “independant” nation, it clearly isn’t. To keep it short, the damn Taiwanese should just stop pretending and face the facts. THEY ARE and WILL ALWAYS be CHINESE.

What is all this hate you have for Taiwan? I am a Turkish-Greek and support the Taiwanese peoples freedom. What does China has to do with Taiwan ? Actually China is the North Korea and Taiwan is the South Korea of their own case… instead of trying to occupy Taiwan on internet blogs I truly believe that China should give up communism, find the right way and join Taiwan under Taiwanese flag. Absolutely Taiwanese China would be much more appreciated worldwide …. I don’t wish to sound wrong I love Chinese people as much as I love Taiwanese just the Chinese bully government pisses me off.
